"BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME" especially to Paradise

LAKE WORTH’S HISTORIC GULFSTREAM HOTEL PROJECT APPROVED

Hudson Holdings can now proceed with their $60MM restoration plan.

Built in the 1920’s, the revival is expected to bring more tourism to the area.  Located near the west end of the Lake Worth Bridge, with walkable shoppes, art galleries, restaurants and antique shops to browse, it may become a mecca for out of towners.  The intracoastal waterway “is right there,” with benches to relax on while watching the boats go by, and the municipal golf course is along the ICW.  Plans include an 87-room hotel with a downstairs restaurant, and  a 2-story parking garage with at least 145 spaces.  Also planned are a champagne room and a rooftop skybar.

The restoration will create 300 jobs and is projected to be finished in 15 months.

Note that in Delray Beach and West Palm Beach investors and developers have plans to update and upgrade those areas with new residential complexes, and new residential buildings have gone up in Boca Raton, and some are in mid-construction.  While these plans bring new jobs, they can also bring congestion to these areas, so these objections are being considered too.  About 1000 people a day move to Florida, and perhaps in a few years, with the new construction in Palm Beach county, more will come.

JEWELRY, ART & ANTIQUES SHOW AT WEST PALM BEACH CONVENTION CENTER

Come on, come all... collectors... or you  might become a collector with inspiration from the beautiful and unusual items you will see at the Annual Show!

There are endless booths to bring you the lastest art techniques, from huge metal sculptures to large sterling silver items including vessels, curvy shapes with waterfalls, graphics works on paper, jewels that shine with diamonds and colored precious stones and antique timepieces, Faberge items and fine English and continental furniture.

The Show is located on Okeechobee Boulevard next to the new Hilton Hotel, bound to become popular quickly.  It opened in time for the show, try the Manor Restaurant with delicious fresh locally produced items ranging from about $12 to $35.  The hotel has an enclosed walkway that goes right to the convention center... no problem if it is raining or very hot!

THINGS THEY ARE A-CHANGIN’! REDO COMING FOR DOWNTOWN DELRAY BEACH AREAS

Hudson Holdings (who owns and is renovating the Gulfstream Hotel in Lake Worth) and MGM Delray just unveiled plans for the restoration and relocation of 8 historic Swinton Avenue buildings.  Swinton Corners is the name of this development. Goal is to sustain the historic district, restore original designs to historic homes and to provide space for galleries and artists.

Included in the plans is The Sundy House hotel, restaurant and botanic-like gardens, The Rectory church built in 1912,  and Cathcart House built in 1902, an example of French Colonial Revival style.

Doc’s All American, on the northeast corner of Atlantic and Swinton, across from Swinton Corners was built in 1951. Doc’s has been a favorite stopping off place for meals and snacks for decades, from it’s iconic ice cream, burgers and hot dogs to its famous chocolate milkshake.  It is on the market, awaiting a buyer.  A 23-unit condo could occupy the space with some retail areas as well.  Address is 37 W Atlantic.  There is a Dunkin Donuts and an adjacent lot, part of Delray’s Old School Square Historic district, that also awaits a buyer.
